Biddulph High School & Sixth Form Update
Biddulph High School and Sixth Form has been on a significant journey over the last few years.
We understand that people across our community will have different experiences and views of our school, and it is important that we listen to them. We also see every day the progress being made and the impact of the changes we have put in place.
This year, our students achieved some of the best results in Biddulph High School’s history. We are very proud of what they have achieved and see these results as another important step in our school’s journey.
Throughout that journey, our priority has remained the same: for every student to be happy at school, to benefit from our innovative MyFutures curriculum and to leave school well prepared for whatever comes next.
We also know there is more to do. In particular, we want to create more opportunities for parents and carers to be involved in the life of the school and to have a greater voice in what we do. That is an important part of the next stage of our journey.
The Ofsted report has now been published, following a significant delay which was beyond our control.
An inspection provides an external view of a school at a particular point in time and, as with any inspection, some of the published information available to inspectors reflected the school’s performance in previous years.
Importantly, the inspection took place before the publication of our latest results. These show significant improvements at both GCSE and Sixth Form and provide the most up-to-date evidence of where Biddulph High School and Sixth Form is today.
There is much in the report that those who know Biddulph High School will recognise.
- Students are happy at school and value the positive relationships they have with friends and staff.
- Our broad and ambitious curriculum helps students prepare for their future goals and aspirations.
- Biddulph High School is an inclusive school. This has been an important part of our journey and, while there is more to do, the progress made is recognised in the report.
- Biddulph Sixth Form is now recognised as a distinct area of the school. Our latest results further demonstrate its progress, with our strongest ever outcomes and every student progressing successfully to their next destination.
- Attendance has improved significantly and is now in line with national measures.
- Staff understand the needs of students who face barriers to learning and wellbeing, including disadvantaged students and those with SEND, and provide support to help overcome those barriers.
- Careers education is a strength, with students benefiting from work experience and individual guidance to help them make ambitious and informed choices.
- Our MyFutures programme, developed with local employers and education providers, supports our students’ aspirations and connects their education with the opportunities available to them beyond school.
The report also identifies areas where there is more work to do. We recognise these and they form part of the next stage of improvement for Biddulph High School and Sixth Form.
The most up-to-date picture
Biddulph High School and Sixth Form has changed significantly over recent years. Our latest results are further evidence of that improvement and give families the most up-to-date picture of where the school is today.
We are proud of the progress that has been made to date, but we are not complacent. Some improvements are already clearly visible in our results and in students’ experiences of school; others will take longer.
Our focus is on building on that progress, continuing to work directly with you and making sure that every student benefits from it.
GCSE Outcomes
This year:
Over 80% of students achieved 9-4 in English (well above national averages)
Over 70% of students achieved 9-4 in Maths (in line with national averages)
The percentage achieving grade 5 or above in English and Maths has improved significantly for the second year running and is now in line with national averages.

Sixth Form
Our Sixth Form now has 100% pass rate in both A Level and Vocational.
Our overall results were the best we have ever achieved with 78% grades at A*-C and nearly half at A*-B
Over 80% of vocational courses secured Distinction grades or better
Next steps
Our CARE values remain at the heart of our work and we remain committed to ensuring that Biddulph High School and Sixth Form is a calm, positive and ambitious place in which to learn.
We will continue to work with students, families and staff, listening to their experiences and using their feedback to help us further improve behaviour across the school.
